Master Chef

There were a lot of cute things happened this week. Here are the ones we managed to write down and remember:

- This weekend, Aidan helped us make dinner (he loves this and is getting very good at pouring in pasta, stirring sauce, taste-testing things, and even bringing plates of food out to the table). Afterward, as Mama, Daddy, and Aidan sat together eating, Daddy said something about how Mama was turning into a "master chef", and Mama said that Aidan helped, and she really liked the food. Aidan responded: "I'm master chef! I make food. It's dewicious [delicious]!"

- After dinner, Aidan has started a new routine of playing with his blue laundry basket by putting it over his head to hide. Then he finds Mama and directs her: "Make pouty mouth! Say, 'where's Aidan? Der's [there's] Aidan!'" :) Of course, I comply, even though it's hard to make a "pouty mouth" through a smile!
(Aidan has a book called "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?" which has a page where a stegosaurus is refusing to say goodnight; Mama always says "Look at his pouty mouth: he says, 'No bed!'" So, that is where "pouty mouth" came from.)

- In the morning, Aidan has taken to waking up Daddy (after cuddling with Mama) by walking into his room and saying, "Wake up, sleepyhead!"

- At night time, Aidan has started regularly asking for Mama to tell him that he is safe. He now believes that there are "monsters" out there (sometimes he wants to play with them and sometimes he is scared of them), which concerns him. So, Mama tells him: "You are safe in your bed; you are safe in your room; you are safe in your house; you are safe with your Mama and your Daddy: you are safe." And he responds, "I are safe."

Feeling better

This week, Aidan finally started feeling better. He still has a lingering cough, but is sleeping better, doesn't have as much of a cold, and is overall much better. This week he was really excited to go visit Grandma and Grandpa Ruane in the Catskills over the weekend, and he had a great time visiting with them when we went up. He also had a blast playing in leaf piles with Daddy

In other news:
- Aidan helped Mommy make oatmeal cookies on Thursday. They were delicious!

- Aidan is really into jeans right now: even if he doesn't want to get dressed in the morning, he will, if he can wear jeans!
- He is also really into saying that things are his "favorite". A couple of times this week he has said "I wike [like] this Ming-Ming [Wonderpets episode] - it's my favowite! [favorite!]" - but with a different favorite each time!

- I've been forgetting to say post this, but here it is: every time I've put on a dress recently (often times to go on a date with Alex), Aidan looks at me carefully, and then says: "You wear dress. You dance!" (His babysitter Laurie has been telling him that we go dancing sometimes when we go on dates, and now he thinks I should dance anytime that I wear a dress! It's pretty cute.)
- Aidan has also told me this week when Daddy was gone that: "I wuv Daddy!" :) It's very cute.

Still sick

We had another rough week this week. Aidan was sick AGAIN (he had a lingering cold and cough) and Mama and Daddy had big work deadlines, so everyone has been pretty exhausted. On Friday night, Aidan also got food poisening (we had dinner at Target), which was miserable. However, after he got everything out of his system, he felt better, and this weekend his cold is beginning to improve (though he still has a sad cough). So, at least there is a positive trend.

Highlights from this week:

- Daddy and Aidan have started playing an "Aidan/Daddy Taquito" game, where they roll each other up in our living room rug, and Aidan loves it!

- On Friday, we finally bought Aidan a helmet for his scooter. He loves it, and now he has a blast scooting around with his bright red head gear, and goes so fast that Mama and Daddy sometimes have to run to keep up with him!

- On Saturday night, we all had dinner with Aidan's friend Cira and her parents, Mary and Badu. Aidan sang songs for us and played on the piano, and we all enjoyed Badu's incredible cooking, including flourless chocolate cake!

- We are still spending a lot of time after playschool hanging out with Angela, the 7-year old girl from the Chinese restaurant next door who Aidan loves. She is very sweet and patient with him! He waits for her to finish her homework, and then they both race up and down the sidewalk on their scooters, and get lollypops from the shoe repair man's shop.

Sick...

This week Aidan came down with a virus and we all were more miserable than we have been in quite a long time. He had a terribly sore throat that kept him up at night for two nights in a row crying and watching TV with us around 11PM to 2/3AM. He was miserable and we were exhausted! We had to take him out of day care for a couple of days to at least minimize the damage for the other kids there (though he probably got it from someone there, and it is definitely going around). Fortunately, it was a short-lived virus that ran itself out in less than a week, and we were able to switch our diet to soup and ice-cream sandwiches (!), which helped, along with Tylenol/Motrin at night to help him sleep. By Wednesday night, Aidan was back to sleeping all the way through the night, and he woke up on Thursday bright and sunshiney, which was a relief! He still spent the weekend taking nice long naps to recuperate, but we were glad that he was getting what he needed.

This weekend Mama and Daddy switched off with Aidan so we could each get some work done on our continuingly hectic schedules. Aidan got to go to Target, Costco, the Natural History Museum, and the Renaissance Festival at nearby Fort Tryon Park, where we saw a live "unicorn" (its horn looked real), sword-fights, and lots of people dressed up in Medieval clothes. Aidan had fun visiting with his friend Cira and Johnny and Grace, but was somewhat overwhelmed by the hoards of people who attended!
