We went to the Catskills for the long holiday weekend, this weekend. Mommy mostly worked, while Daddy and Grandma and Grandpa Ruane hung out with the kids. Aidan and Kiana had fun: they helped Daddy wash the car on Saturday (it was a gorgeous, warm weekend!), and did the usual visiting of chickens, dogs, playing in streams, and helping. Aidan got to use his own (Aidan-sized) shovel, and even tried a power drill with Grandpa! On Sunday, they all went on the Catskill Mountain Railroad from Phoenicia towards Boiceville.
Then, Sunday afternoon all us us went over to Marguerite and Nadir's to have an early celebration for Kiana's first birthday (coming up this Thursday)! Grandma got a chocolate buttercream cake, and everyone except Kiana enjoyed it: she, however, was very skeptical about the whole thing, although she was very interested in the candle!
Unfortunately, Kiana got really sick over the weekend. It started with a low fever, but by Saturday night it got high (around 101), and she was really congested and refluxy. Apparently, being sick around the first birthday has turned into a tradition in our family: Aidan was sick on his first birthday at Grandma and Grandpa's mountain house when he was a baby, too! :(
Notes that I forgot to put in last week's post: Kiana is incredibly into playing games right now! She LOVES playing "hat" games, where she puts some kind of cloth on her head, and then takes it off again, and then on and off and on and off again. Her favorite is using Aidan's underwear. It cracks her up! & It makes us laugh too. :)
