Last month, I finished up my first semester teaching, and Alex got to a stopping point on his current projects, and we packed up the kids and our stuff and flew to Oahu! It was the first time we have been to Hawaii since Kiana was born, and the trip was long overdue! It ended up being a whole family reunion as well as a vacation, and it was WONDERFUL.
We took a red-eye from Newark, NJ to Honolulu, and the kids were great! My parents and brother, Jon-Michael, flew over from the Big Island, Frances flew in from Seattle, and we all visited together with Chris, Lauren, and their 7 month old baby, Alison, who just moved to Oahu (Chris & Lauren are stationed at the Air Force base there). The flight went really well, and we were swimming on Waikiki by 6:30AM on Sunday morning, after waking up at 5AM (a GREAT accomplishment, for a 6 hour time change with kids!)

We were happy to connect with Chris, Lauren, and baby Allie on Saturday night and Sunday, and then enjoyed a few days exploring the island mostly on our own. We drove around the whole island - Oahu is so much smaller than the Big Island! Exploring is easy and fun! - visited the Dole Pineapple Plantation (and rode on their Pineapple Express train!), saw a blow-hole, and visited different beaches.
At the Dole Plantation, Aidan loved the Pineapple Express, while Kiana decided it was a playground and tried to do all sorts of acrobatics on it while we were riding! And Aidan took an awesome family portrait of all of us (it is his shadow in the photo), that we loved.
We also ate tons of delicious food - laulau at L&L's, fresh papaya, lichee, coconut, and more, and the best shave ice I have EVER had at Ailana's on Waikiki. And, of course, soaked up the water and sun. I was so happy to be back in Hawaii!!
