This weekend, my dear friend, Auntie Julia, visited us! We have known each other since the first day of grad school, almost 10 years ago, and we never get to see enough of each other. The last time we saw each other was when Kiana and I visited her and her baby, baby Wayne, when he was just a tiny thing last spring. Now, baby Wayne is almost as old as Kiana was then, and it is wonderful to see her, big Wayne, and see baby Wayne grow! I was so happy that they were able to visit!

Julia and baby Wayne hung out with us on Friday and Saturday while big Wayne was working his boat show. Saturday night, we met up with big Wayne for dinner at Eataly downtown. I have heard good things about it, but it was fun to get the full experience - it's a giant place full of restaurants, specialty groceries (hundreds of kinds of cheeses and salamis, fresh meats, specialty produce - I saw "Buddah fingers"!), desserts, wine bars, and more. We got yummy pizza and pasta for dinner, and gelato (hazelnut for Daddy, coffee for me, and chocolate for Aidan) for dessert. Sunday, Julia's family came uptown and hung out with us after doing some sightseeing, before catching their flight back to Tennessee. It was wonderful to see them again! I'm hoping for more boat shows in NYC. :)

Meanwhile, Aidan had a very busy weekend. Saturday morning he had his latest round of Kindergarten testing - this time G&T testing for public schools. Afterward, he had his first day of baseball school at the Uptown Sports Complex in Innwood. Then, he made it back to our neighborhood in time to catch some of his friend Gregory's birthday party in the park (it was a gorgeous, very un-winter-like day!), and was thrilled to fill up on doughnuts and juiceboxes. After church on Sunday morning, Aidan then had *another* birthday party for his friend Virginia to attend while Kiana napped! Having kids in two daycares AND preK has made for a lot of good friends!

Kiana also had an exciting weekend. While Aidan was gone on Saturday morning, she and I worked on an art project of painting on canvas, which she was absolutely thrilled about. (I did one like it with Aidan when he was little, and thought she would like to work on a similar project.) While he was gone, she started using all of these new words! It was like she was waiting for Aidan to be gone to start showing off her vocabulary! She loved painting with "puh puh" (purple), "boo" (blue), "yeyo" (yellow), and dipping her paintbrush in the "wawa" (water - she has been saying that for a while). While she was helping me rearrange wall hangings, she talked about the "wah" (wall), and how I was going "up" and "dow" (down) on the chair to change the hangings. All week, she has also been saying "wee!" when she climbs out of bed each morning, and "wow!" when she is impressed with something (e.g., that Aidan does). She has been talking about playing with "bow" (balls) and going "ow" (out). And while we were on the subway, someone was playing the "Pink Panther" music on a saxaphone, and I talked to her about it. She LOVED it, and kept asking for more "dub dah" (panther) music. Then, when we got home, Aidan was watching an Avengers superhero cartoon, and when she saw Black Panther (one of the superheroes), she got all excited and said "dub dah!" (panther) again and again! We had to talk all about how this one was black, not pink, but yes, there was a connection! It was exciting to hear all the new words.
