Chris & Lauren's baby shower!

This week was really exciting!

Monday through Thursday, Daddy went to Ontario, Canada (Guelph) for a last-minute work trip, and Grandma Ruane came (Tuesday through Thursday) to help me with backup. Highlights from this part of the week were me giving Aidan his first buzzed haircut for the summer (he initially hated, and now just doesn't like it: repeatedly saying that he never wants to have this haircut EVER again); and us going to the pool with Grandma and then again just with Mama and the two kids (a fantastic way to beat the heat!). Daddy got back on Thursday around dinner time, and then it was Friday!

On Friday, the big adventure started: we all took an Amtrak train down to Washington DC to see Uncle Chris and Aunt Lauren! They were there for a premiere of the movie "Rescue 3D", which told the story of the military and civilian aid response to the January 13, 2010 Haiti earthquake disaster - and Aunt Lauren (the Air Force representative) was one of four main characters in the movie! We came down because while they were there for the premiere, they were also having their baby shower! (That's right - Aidan and Kiana are going to have a Ross cousin!!! We are SO excited!!)

We trained down on Friday late afternoon, and Aidan was thrilled to be taking a big adventure train trip on an Amtrak train. Saturday morning we all had fun playing in the hotel pool. Then, Uncle Chris came downtown with us for lunch. Afterward we stopped by the "First Ladies" collection at the Smithsonian (primarily inaugural gowns!), on our way to the IMAX showing of the "Rescue 3D" movie at the Smithsonian Lockheed Martin IMAX theater. There, Daddy walked Kiana around for a nap, so I could watch the movie with Aidan (hooray for Daddy!). It was Aidan's first time seeing a movie in theater, and it was a 3D movie with his Aunt Lauren being featured!! A pretty amazing first. :)

After the show, we all (Chris & Lauren, Lauren's parents Jim & Cinda, her brother John and his wife Ashley, a bunch of Lauren's friends who live in the DC area, and us and cousin Heather) made our way over to Firefly for dinner and the baby shower. On the way over, we ran into a gay pride parade, which was fun - Aidan and Kiana loved the gold and green beads they got! At the restaurant, we enjoyed yummy food, and loved seeing Chris and Lauren open baby presents. Aidan got to decorate his own cookie, which they then cooked for him and let him eat afterward (amazing!) He enjoyed it so much that he even turned down cupcakes that the rest of us had afterward!

Sunday morning, Aidan had more pool time with Daddy while Kiana napped and I packed. We said goodbye to Chris, Lauren, Heather, and Jim & Cinda, and then took the metro over to see "Obama's House" (the White House), stayed only briefly because of the melting heat, and then had a late lunch at Union station before training back home on Amtrak to NYC.

It has been an intense week, and we are looking forward to no travel this week! But we are SO happy that we were able to be part of Chris & Lauren's celebration. We can't wait to meet Aidan and Kiana's new cousin! It was awesome so get to see Lauren's baby bump, and we know they are going to be great parents. & It's going to make visits SO much fun!!!
